Manuel Canovas Chinoiserie

Manuel Canovas is a wonderful source for Chinoiserie fabric and wallpaper. The fabric above is Beavoir. The wallpaper just below, one of my favorites, is Pali. Note that the chair fabric is not Manuel Canovas but Nobilis.

Chinoiserie Shower Curtains

Beautiful ready made shower curtains are hard to find and Chinoiserie ones are even rarer. These two are wonderful and both are on sale. Above is West Lake from Blissliving Home and below is Audrey from Pottery Barn. Both will add drama to a neutral bathroom or will distract the eye in older bathrooms with dated colors.

My Peacock Room

One of my favorite rooms anywhere is the Peacock Room at the Sackler Gallery here in DC. On a recent thrift store trip, I spotted this amazing brass peacock screen. It was not priced, and I figured it would be quite expensive. When I inquired, I was told it was from an embassy, and they were asking $50. I could not pay and get it out of there fast enough. When I got it home it did not look like this. It was orange in color, probably having been in a hookah bar as opposed to an embassy. It was missing much of its hardware fastening all of it together. I took the entire thing apart, cleaned it, had a handy friend make new hardware for what was missing, reassembled and polished it. I have even found some wonderful bird claw and ball feet for the base that I have ordered. More pictures to come-this is a little preview. I almost threw it in the garbage a hundred times it was so frustrating restoring it, but I think it's quite beautiful.

Chinoiserie Fretwork Chair Print by Anne Harwell

Orange, pink, turquoise, Chinese Chippendale chair-need I say more? A wonderful new print by Anne Harwell available at her Etsy store here.

Chinoiserie Greek Key Mirror

This great looking Greek Key Mirror from Ballard Designs is on sale for $199. In faux bamboo steel, it is a wonderful mirror for the money. It looks quite a bit like Williams-Sonoma Home's Hampstead Mirror priced at $595.

Saturday Inspiration and a Reminder

This fabulous blue and white room is in Schumacher's Nanjing in Porcelain. I am off to the DC Big Flea Market to find some great Chinoiserie treasures, but not before stopping by at Grant Gibson's Tastemaker Tag Sale today on One Kings Lane beginning at 11 AM Eastern time. What a great start to my weekend! See everyone there!

A Chic Entry

A follower of Chinoiserie Chic has sent me this photo of her very chic Chinoiserie entry. She was inspired by my post on the JCPenney Cindy Crawford Trellis Foot Stool to buy two of them and cover them in Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon she won on eBay. Click to enlarge the photo-it's wonderful! I love the white parsons console, the owl umbrella stand, copies of Vogue Living: Houses, Gardens, People and The Audrey Hepburn Treasures, the malachite box, the rug, the framed piece-really wonderful attention to detail. I do think the stools absolutely make the space-in her words, they take the entryway from drab to fab. I don't agree that it was drab before, but the Chinese Chippendale stools and iconic Chinoiserie fabric do elevate the space dramatically. Thanks so much for sharing!

The Gourd Lamp

The gourd lamp is one of my favorites for the Chinoiserie room. It is a wonderful mix of classic yet modern, fresh but sophisticated. It can be used in a more traditional Chinoiserie room like the bedroom by Joe Nye above to add a modern dose, or to add a jolt of color like the iconic Miles Redd bedroom below. Gourd lamps are everywhere at all price points from HomeGoods to Christoper Spitzmiller's works of art.

Chinoiserie Upholstery

These beautiful Chinoiserie upholstered pieces were recently on sale at One Kings Lane. While one often thinks of using Chinoiserie fabrics for chair seats, pillows, or window treatments, these are great examples of how perfectly Chinoiserie patterns work on upholstery as well.
